Early voting started yesterday (10/18) here in Tennessee, where the U.S. Senate race is arguably the most hotly contested Senate race in the country. Any poll on any given day shows the candidates barely a hair's breadth apart -- and the difference is usually well within the margin of error.
Here is an email I got from
Music Row Democrats' own Bob Titley:
Yesterday I sat in on this week's conference call for the Harold Ford Senate campaign. Here is a summary of some key points:
-Harold Ford has a 3-7 point lead in independent polls less than one month until the election.
-The Republican Swift Boat 527s are preparing to pour money into Tennessee to smear
Harold Ford.
-The Ford campaign needs to raise $600,000 per week until the election to fight back.
The Music Row Democrats have grown this election year to include 2600 members. We want to harness your energy and the energy of the internet to help in this critical campaign to win back the Senate. If each of our members recruited 3 friends to donate $25.00 each (the price of a concert t-shirt), then we could raise:
2600 x 3 x $25.00 = $195,000.00
Please forward this email to your friends and call them personally to ask for their help (Or you can use the "Send this to a friend" button at the bottom of this message). All you need to do is raise a minimum of $25.00 each from three friends. And if you find the process rewarding don't stop at three friends, but keep going. This is how we take our country back.
If you have ever asked, "What can I do?"
Here is something simple, practical and easy that you can do.
Thank you,
Bob Titley

The Corker campaign had already begun to swing low -- running negative, untruthful ads (imagine that!). Now, here comes out-of-state money to campaign Swiftboat style and take things even lower. We know the repugs have pulled out of some states and are focusing on others -- well, Tennesse is one of those special states getting the attention. Governor Bredesen has nice, strong coattails, but we can't count on that to carry Ford to the Senate, particularly when the Swiftboaters rev their engines and start the mud flying.
The TNDP and the individual county parties (tip-of-the-hat particularly to the Sumner County Democratic Party are doing a great job with this campaign -- putting together a Democratic machine the likes of which this state has not seen in a long, long time. But the machine needs greasing -- and it will take lots of $$$ to do it.
They've called in the Swiftboaters -- I'm sending out a call for help to the DKavalry! What a joy it would be to see out-of-state DK Dollars roll into Harold Ford Jr.'s campaign.
You can help TN make history by electing Harold Ford, Jr. to the Senate -- the first African-American Senator elected from the South since 1870, when Hiram R. Revels was elected to the U.S. Senate from Mississippi!
Stay strong! Be generous!!
